On the 16th of February, external stakeholders met for a consultative meeting on the Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development's strategic plan (2017-2022) in Lilongwe, Malawi. Following a 2-day in-house stakeholders meeting which set the aspirations for JCED's direction in January, representatives of relevant government agencies, NGOs, Jesuit Refugee Services, and other organizations attended the external stakeholders meeting at Umodzi Park.
Stakeholders emphasised the importance of creative and innovative solutions to bolster food production while enhancing individual’s livelihoods, sustainable methods of implementing projects, ethical research, generating knowledge from the community, focusing on youth empowerment, collaboration, financing strategies, and communication and dissemination of JCED’s work. Using the Church’s far-reaching network, JCED intends to promote the teachings of “Laudato Si” and environmental education, and foster eco-sensitive and sustainable methods of community development.
