From 19–22 January 2026, our JCED team was gathered at Thope Lodge in Mponela for quarterly review and planning meeting, child protection and safeguarding training and ended with a spirit rejuvenating exercise (a day of recollection).
The morning of the first day focused on reviewing JCED’s implemented activities of the last quarter across key projects such as Tasintha Mlimi, Victory Gardens, and other supported initiatives. The afternoon of the first day was dedicated to planning for the new quarter of Tasintha Mlimi project, Victory Garden project, as well as of small grants. The discussions around the quarterly review and planning meeting informed the development of an institutional quarterly calendar, which will guide the staff members in effective implementation of project activities ahead.
As part of our commitment to safe, ethical, and accountable programming, the second day was dedicated to Child Protection and Safeguarding training. The sessions strengthened understanding of safeguarding policy implementation and Malawiʼs Child Protection and Safeguarding legal framework, reinforcing shared responsibility and institutional accountability. After these thought-provoking sessions the staff members signed safeguarding policies.
The fully-loaded week ended with a spirit rejuvenating exercise (a day of recollection), bringing everyone else close to the Divine who has called us to labour in his vineyard. This spiritual enriching exercise was guided by Fr. Kelvin Munkuli, SJ, who offered JCED staff members space for prayer, personal reflection, and collective discernment. The recollection invited staff to renew their mission of accompanying the poor and marginalized, grounding their work in faith, accountability, and service. AMDG.
